Autoharps - Chromatic & Diatonic Harps

I've played the Autoharp since the age of seventeen. In the mid 1960s little was known about the instrument in this country or how to play it. My first influence as I recall was probably Bill Clifton & of course The Carter Family.

I must, even then had the idea to try and build one as recently I came across a drawing in an old note book along with songs I was performing at the time. It's taken me all these years to finally build harps encouraged by members of UK Autoharps.

All my harps are made from the finest q/sawn tone woods. I use a one piece laminated beech pin block. Soundboards can be made in q/sawn spruce, mahogany & cedar wood (when available) tuning pin blocks are also made of q/sawn timber.

My harps are lighter in weight than most being built today. This is due to my specially designed frame & bracing. The harp body is jig built with backward bend to compensate the string tension.

Fine tuners: A must have these days, I have these made by local precision engineers.
